Aldo Nadi on his first duel
An account from his book "On Fencing" is definitely worth a read to everybody. The whole book probably is as well, but this excerpt made me stop for a moment.

Was a well intresting read, that excerpt. Any idea where I could buy the book from? Also funny to see how some tricks never go out of fashion it seems, I was quite suprised to read about the way aldo's opponent started the duel, always thought it was more of a trick for the piste than for an encounter fenced in earnest.

Interesting read.

Medical nitpick: "Before putting on your street glove (dueling regulations) your seconds fasten a white silk handkerchief to your wrist. "What for?" "To protect the main arteries." You don't like the explanation." This to me sounds like unhelpful, unless hits to wrists are significantly more likely than hits to say forearm.

In my opinion, in epee the hits to the wrists are much more common. Makes sense too, that if you want to strike an advanced target, you'd strike the wrist wich is closer than the forearm. Also if your guard position isn't properly protecting your hand, it exposes the wrist wich makes it an awesome target to stab. Only time I'd strike the forearm is when your opponents guard is significantly lower than yours.
