Wrestling/Abrazare at Myllypuro, February 28th
As there has been some interest to practice wrestling (both standup&ground) also on a floor that is a bit more forgiving for throwing and rolling, we are reserving a timeslot from Myllypuro's Liikuntamylly. Date would be 28.2, 12-16 o'clock. So if you are interested in attending, please let us know before Friday morning - we need to know approx number of people to make the reservation. Costs will be split amongst participants, should not be more than 10e or so.
We will be covering Fiore's abrazare as per school syllabus but emphasis will be mostly on applying the things we already know and finding out what we don't know. ![]() - Topi & Ilkka |

Great fun! The biggest problem was the vast amount of stuff I learned. It might take a few sessions for the lessons to sink in. But it was nice to see that everybody was able to wrestle in a meaningful way with just the basic abrazare knowledge from Fiore. Just shows how intuitive it can be.
Also, more beginners and junior students next time would be great. Though it was a moment of nostalgia to realize I was the most junior student in attendance. Man yt wol to ye to hond swerd lern bothe close & clere He most haue a goode eye both fer & nere |

Will there be a write up at some stage? Photos? Dammit! I'm pissed off now that I had to miss it.

Hi,
(03-03-2009 09:34 PM)KevinOBrien Wrote: Will there be a write up at some stage? Photos? Dammit! I'm pissed off now that I had to miss it. No photos unfortunately, too busy gasping for air We started from ground, first just learning how to move when someone is on top of you. And then gradually started to make life harder for the partner by pinning them down, making breathing more difficult etc. Antti then showed some basic control positions (side control) and locks (figure 4, armbar) from there. These were then put to a bit more tactical perspective by including a takedown from 1st master of dagger, pinning opponent down and locking. After that we got up, and brushed up on basic abrazare plays with light sparring. (Wrestling mat was really sticky, so anything involving volta stabile was quite hard to pull off Played with countering bearhug and discussed how to actually get there, plus general ideas of takedowns from attacker's inside and outside. And then back to mat, refreshed control stuff, added passing the guard by controlling legs and some locks from below by pushing and pulling elbow if it was offered. And finished with games trying to prevent partner from getting up. So very very basic stuff, most of it strictly speaking not from Fiore, but trying to keep within his principles. No punching (and only un-intended kicking or daggers, yet.Special thanks to Antti for all the pointers and guidance! Topi |

We did 2 different locks from top. Figure 4 from side (pin opponents bent arm with opposing hand from wrist, slide your other arm under it, grab your own wrist and tighten - at least I think this is one form of figure four lock?) and straight armbar starting from mount (opponent's straight arm ends between you legs, use hips to leverage the arm while legs keep opponent down). Did that clarify at all? br, Topi |
