Sword racks & storing swords at home
Hi,

I was wondering what kinds of methods do you people use to store ( säilyttää? ) your swords at home. I'm kinda have the problem at the moment that I can't take a step on my appartement without hitting some kind of a weapon Rolleyes.

Do you guys have sword racks at home on the wall for your swords / daggers etc, or do you use some kind of drawers, vitrines & bookshelfs? Also what kind of system would you recommend when there's not much space available?

I'd just mount them on the wall. You can get readymade racks that are commonly used for keeping japanese swords, or you can just buy triangular supports for shelf board and work notches on the horizontal part to hold the blades. That's not as pretty, but you'll accommodate more swords in less space. Vitrines make more sense if you needed to protect the swords from the environment.

I constructed a simple vertical floor rack, picture attached. Works nicely, takes a moderate amount of space and doesn't look odd like a wall stand would when some of the weapons are away in use.

We bought a few pairs of these (far left) for our club, while they might not look great, you can easily hang 2-5 swords on a pair depending on how elaborate the handle is.

That's genius, Harry.

I have my own sword in corner of our lobby.

And my own made "movie swords" I have in my closet.

Thanks for all the answers!

Joeli, can you give any links to where I could buy the japanese readymade racks? Depending on what they look like & price I might buy one of them otherwise it will probably be one of those hook thingys that you just stick to the wall.

And as already stated above, damn you got a nice looking rack there harri Smile. Wish I had woodworking skills like that

I simply hammered a couple of nails to a wall, and they do the job. This looks quite untidy when the swords aren't there, which is why they are in hall corner instead of the living room wall.
