Hello everyone,

I'm a beginner student of swordsmanship at the Jyväskylä branch/cousin/not sure of this fine organization. So far I'm liking it very much, and am thinking of buying a longsword of my own. I might be a bit early with this, but have decided that I'd want to own one even if I stopped training tomorrow.

The issue I'm most unsure about is length. From what I've understood the standard total length for a longsword in Fiore's system is roughly up to the chest of the user, which for most people is somewhere around 120-130ish cm. I happen to be a good bit taller than most people at 192cm, so a similarly proportioned weapon for me would be closer to or a bit over 140cm. I'm a bit unsure about the exact number, since pointing out the exact spot where my chest starts is harder than I thought. Most entry level longswords on the market appear to be in the 120-125cm range, but some have 140cm swords for the Lichtenauer system well within my price range, which would seem fitting for me from a common sense-utilizing definitely-not-and-expert point of view. Nobody at our salle has a sword that long for me to try, so I thought I'd ask for opinions from the larger community here.

Short version: really tall guy thinking of acquiring a 140cm Lichtenauer sword for Fiore practice, not sure if good or incredibly bad idea.

So now I'm getting a plastron from Ola Linden, if anyone wants to save on shipping then now's the time to get one. The current going price for the standard model is 290€, modifications cost extra.
Let me know if you want one but be quick about it, I won't wait long after mine's ready for shipping (don't know yet when that will be).

I´m in quest of finding a cheapish longsword for Fiore training. Last summer when attending to summer camp at Tahko i got (too) excited of Feder made by Péter Regenyei. Kristian had already ordered 2 of them and i decided to order 1 myself. Well feder i got is nice but now i would like to have a heavier blunt longsword . I asked Peter about his blunts and he suggested a copy of this sword http://www.albion-swords.com/swords/albi...re-xva.htm

He mentioned that 2 fellas on School have allready ordered this kind of a sword from him. I would happy to hear experiences of Peter´s blunts. Price of this kind of sword is tempting as it cost´s only 270€

I have also considered Szymon Chlebowski´s swords (http://www.szymonchlebowski.pl/)

Jan Chodkiewicz heavy feder´s are also tempting (http://ensifer.carbonmade.com/projects/96362#5).

Contacting Jan seems to be challenging though

HUOM! JHMS:n sali on varsin pieni. Mikäli ilmoittautuneita tulee yli 8, pyrimme etsimään seminaaria varten suuremman salin. Jos emme saa muualta salia, ensimmäiset 8 ilmoittautunutta pääsee seminaariin. Kannattaa siis ilmoittautua nopeasti. Osallistujilla tulee olla maski ja hanskat.

Salilla on mahdollista yöpyä tarvittaessa.

Sitova ilmoittautuminen

---

Matias Parmala of EHMS will hold a seminar on German longsword in Jyväskylä on Saturday 3rd March. The actual seminar takes place on Saturday, but after that on Sunday 4th March there will be free training with our guests from Espoo.

The seminar costs 30 € and must be paid before the seminar.

NB! The JHMS salle is rather small. In case there are more than eight participants, we will look for a bigger salle for the seminar elsewhere.

HUOM! JHMS:n sali on varsin pieni. Mikäli ilmoittautuneita tulee yli 8, pyrimme etsimään seminaaria varten suuremman salin. Jos emme saa muualta salia, ensimmäiset 8 ilmoittautunutta pääsee seminaariin. Kannattaa siis ilmoittautua nopeasti. Osallistujilla tulee olla maski ja hanskat.

Salilla on mahdollista yöpyä tarvittaessa.

If we do not get a bigger salle, the first eight to sign up can participate in the seminar, so sign up fast. Every participant must have a mask and gloves.

Hello,

we write this message to inform you about "Bilbao Armata 2012", a historical European martial arts event, to be held from the 14th to the 16th of September this year, in Bilbao (north Spain).

Classes will be taught by:

- Roman Vucajnk (Academia artis dimicatoriae):
· Dague
· Ringen

- Harry Winter (Dreynschlag)
· Sword and buckler (Lignitzer)
· Pole axe

- Alberto Bomprezzi (AEEA)
· Long sword (Close combat techniques)
· Spanish Rapier 'Destreza' (beginner and advanced)

- Mishaël Lopes Cardozo (AMEK)
· Biomechanics

- Ignacio Buján (Sala de Armas Fénix)
· Long sword (Principles and techniques from Goliath Fechtbuch)

Soon we will write you more information as timetable and event fees.

As a reference we leave some comments from Bilbao Armata 2011 instructors

Fabrice Cognot (De Taille et d'Estoc):
I've had the honour and pleasure to be invited to teach at the Bilbao Armata last September. It is always a treat to see old HEMA friends and make new ones, but this pleasure was heightened by the smooth organisation of this event and the outstanding hospitality of its hosts.
And in spite of very hot days and nights (though not necessarily for the same reasons), this event delivered, to say the least. I can't judge for my own part (I talked about French rapier and Burgundian Poleaxe), but I can vouch for the quality of the other classes thanks not only to the high level of martial proficiency and teaching of the other instructors, but also the receptive, dedicated and sometimes highly skilled audience - they even managed to bear with my dubious humour, and that's saying something.
And I had good free play time too.
All in all, I have nothing but fond memories of this event - worth every second. Please guys, let me be there net time, ok ?

Roman Vucajnk (Academia artis dimicatoriae):
The organisers of Bilbao Armata have succeeded in placing the event firmly on the international HEMA map. The event was well planned with all the features neatly optimised to meet the expectations of attendees, as well as instructors. Workshops were held in a modern, fully equipped gym and the time-frame ensured a smooth run of the event. The organising crew completed their task on a highly professional level, while at the same time treating everybody to overwhelming splendour of the local hospitality. Bilbao Armata is certainly to be revisited next year!

Johannes Pelzer (Gladiatores):
For me, the Bilbao Armata 2011 was an awesome weekend. The organisators from SAF, worked really hard to make everything comfortable for the participants. I would be happy to there in 2012 again and recommend this event to you

Best Regards
