We build up to rapier and dagger fencing by first gaining reasonable control over the sword alone, then we use the following system:

  • Parrying with the dagger alone
  • Parrying with the dagger while striking with the sword
  • Feinting against the dagger
  • Parrying with the dagger while doing a feint-disengage with the sword against the dagger

This naturally builds up the student's instinct to use the dagger defensively. Video from Guy's online Rapier course: https://swordschool.teachable.com/p/rapier and book four in his Rapier Workbook Series: https://guywindsor.net/book/rapierpartfour/
