We build up to rapier and dagger fencing by first gaining reasonable control over the sword alone, then we use the following system:
- Parrying with the dagger alone
- Parrying with the dagger while striking with the sword
- Feinting against the dagger
- Parrying with the dagger while doing a feint-disengage with the sword against the dagger
This naturally builds up the student's instinct to use the dagger defensively.
